Dores Minothi Imagine a world not made up of a planet, but instead of islands held in orbit around a great god sphere. Over one hundred millions years in the past the planet of Frinos was at the height of its culture, technology was not just a science but a religion. It was in this time that the science-priests of Frinos made their greatest mistake and doomed their planet to ruin. On Frinos' moon Wyris the priests errected a giant metal band around the surface of the moon, planning to use it as the focus to draw their very god to them, in order to show him the greatness that they had performed in his name. The metal band was over 20 miles wide and more than 50 miles high, with countless labs and archologies within it to house the millions of scientists it took to create it. The moment came for their greatest prayer and act of magickal-science to be performed, but something went wrong. What few survivors were left were too busy trying to stay alive and evacuate the planet beneath them to worry about what exactly had been done wrong. You see, they called a god but it wasn't their's, it was a new god and the webs of reality were ripped assunder. The moon exploded with the inability to hold the might of the new deity within itself and the wreckage of the planetoid fell upon Frinos, destroying most of the population within a matter of days. The survivors boarded their spacecraft and left the solar system, never to look back on their sin of hubris again. No one is sure why the band of metal was not destroyed, maybe the massive amount of magic that went into it protected it from the idiot god's mindless wrath but it remained, becoming a solid orbit around the small boiling mass that was the god. When the god was birthed the walls seperating the elemental planes were ripped down and new orbits developed around the new god, representing each of the elements of the universe. Earth and air bonded together almost imediately, maybe as a reflexive wish of the new god, for every god wishes there to be those who may someday worship him, even those gods without a true mind. The plane of water formed its own orbit, coming into a long line of contact with the floating islands of Earth and the whirlwind jet stream of elemental air. Fire developed last, scorching two swatched through the earthen islands where its orbit connected with elemental earth. Over the hundred million years following the birth of the god some of the remnants of the once proud moon, caught in the orbit of the new god, were worn into moons in their own right, two orbits of three moons eventually became visible in the sky above the islands, and one day, when the first of the higher races began to dwell on the ring of islands, these moons would bear names and be worshipped alongside the real god at the center. No one is sure when, how, or why the first of the living creatures were brought to this new world (eventually named Dores Minothi) but they were and they thrived. Eventually intelligent races began appearing as well, calling themselves 'higher' to differentiate them from the beasts. Over this epoch marking the emergiance of intelligent life things were simple on Dores Minothi, but who could not see that at some point a world birthed by technology would not see it once more? That time is now, the peoples and cultures of Dores Minothi are entering a new epoch, an epoch marked by what we would call technology, the first sphere engines were invented over a hundred years ago and are now a common sight throughout the islands of man, as are the giant ships that sail the stream, the only way, save using the Dragon gates, of moving from island to island. This is not, however, an age of technology like we ourselves know, this is an age of technology whose base is magic and where even the peasants know some magic. This is a world of steam, a world of magic, and most importantly... a world of discovery. May Deos light your path my friend. ================================================ I just wanted to start some talks about this world, get other people's thoughts and maybe some of your ideas on things to fill it with. I have a lot of it myself already, but am always interested in hearing new ideas. I will do my best to answer any questions anyone has, so PLEASE ask, your questions will help me flesh it out for others.
