Disease tracks pointless?

Is it just me or are Disease tracks pretty much pointless?

Anytime my PC's are exposed to a disease, out whips the Cure Disease ritual and bang, disease is gone. The damage that it may cause generally isn't a threat since the PC generally will have healed up before having the ritual done on them.

Damage from the ritual that people heal is still costing surges or other healing powers. Plus not everyone has the ritual, the components for it, or the time to use it.

We could make this a "general" question.

How do you make Disease formidable in DnD with the existence of the Cure Disease spell/ritual?

* Make the ritual more expensive to cast if they always use it without considering toughening it out

* Modify diseases so they have accelerated effects during the encounter where you face them

* Inflict disease upon a PC without telling him. Only when he worsens on the disease track, let him know. The goal is for there to be at least one encounter with the PC in the worse condition; possibly more if you spring this on players in the middle of a three-encounter run.

Actually, the endurance DCs are so low that usually you're much better off just letting the disease run its course instead of spending the money on cure disease and suffering the damage from the ritual.
