Dispelling your own Polymoprhs

I've have this situation in a game I'm running where the bad-guy has polymorphed a lot of his monstrous minions into humanoid forms to help out with the day-to-day business of keeping an evil overlord's lair running. Now if the adventurers come in to loot said lair, can the bad-guy just "drop the spell" and have all his minions back in monstrous form? Does he need to cast a dispel or greater dispel and beat his own spell DC? Or should I rethink the whole polymorphed minions bit? (though it has a level of practicality to it that I really like)

I suppose you mean 3.0 Polymorph Other.

You cannot willingly end the spell (you can only do so with spells that have a (D) after the duration (dismissable)).

You have to dispel (an area dispel for example to get multiple targets at once) them, but since the spell is one of your own, you succeed automatically on the dispel check (no need to roll).

What Thanee said. Note that this also means that if the BBEG casts an area dispel which has some of his minions within the area, it will dispel the spell on them, whether he wants to or not.
