This culture or that military order etc. Drow are matriarchal, orcs patriarchal, Elves in general tend the skew female but not  matriarchal.  If you're doing a hard core earth setting or one duplicating it you can still have female warriors etc, women would be excluded from political power and even then it's not absolute.  In a fantasy world the key thing is don't over do it matriarchal or patriarchal. You don't have to do it either but yeah there can be a place for it.  You can even build a theme around it such as Drow campaign. I would check with your players though. Don't over do it and don't use it to antagonize the players in most cases, if they're the villains it's probably fine.</blockquote>
