I picked up the latest issue of Game Trade Magazine at one of my FLGS this evening. A lot of interesting things to me. They slipped in 4 pages from the DMG II. The first two pages appear to be from the NPC section. The first page is a High Priest (EL 20). It includes her full stats, set up the way the players would be likely to encounter him (it mentions he casts magic vestment and greater magic weapon on her heavy flail every day, and notes these spells are used in the character stats). Included is a compete spell list and notable items (general equipment is noted as "combat gear"). The second page includes two "martial artists." The first is a 5/5 fighter monk. It includes nots for making him a non-human (mentioning which feat to drop and which skills are lower). The second is listed as a "variant martial artist" who is a 5/5 rogue/monk. Same notes as the first. The two pages are mostly stats, but two pictures are given. The high priest takes up maybe 1/6 or less of the page. However, the picture is fit between two columns, so doesn't really interrupt much of the information presentation. A single martial artist picture appears, taking up about the same amount of space as the high priest. The last two pages are weapon properties from the magic item section. Indeed, the first page has almost half the first column describing the format (presumbably carried over from the previous page). They are covered in a lot of detail. Only 3 abilities are covered on the two pages, with pictures of two swords in the center of both pages. The abilities are Acidic Burst, Air Elemental Power (Synergy), and Brutal Surge. Acidic Burst's first section gives a brief overview of the ability (mentioning it's simmiliar to corrosive weapon, but deals more damage). The next section is description; two paragraphs that describe what the weapon looks like ("It's surface is pitted and worn..."). "Activation" is the next section (a paragraph), followed by "Effect" (two paragraphs and a table), "Aura/Caster Level" (single line), "Construction" (two lines) and finally "Price." Air Elemental Power is set up differently. The ability allows you to summon an air elemental and communicate with it. This powerful ability apparently causes the second section to be "Lore" which gives information a character would know about the ability with a Knowledge (History) check (DC 20 & DC 30 in this case). The Brutal Surge ability is like the first in set up. The ability basically allows you to, once per day, add a bull rush attempt to an attack.
