No-one needs some corporate entity's permission to play DS right now.Personally, I think 5e is a terrible fit for DS anyway, but there are several fan adaptations. Alternately, there is at least one for 2e Pathfinder (made much easier by the keywords, I'd wager), one for Mythras, and one for B/X. Personally, I've been tinkering with a homebrew system that fits my own idea of what DS is about. We have a lot of options!</blockquote>
