Pathfinder 1E Do I need a character ahead of time to show up at a PF Society game?

There's a local convention this weekend and 95% of the games are Pathfinder Society games.

Do I need to show up with a character in order to play, or do these games come with characters pre-made for this purpose? Because I don't own any PF stuff.

No idea. Never tried.

But my thought would be why not make one just in case you need it? If you need access to PF info then use the PFSRD (just be careful which books your stuff comes from):

Hopefully someone can tell you if you need one.

Haven't played in one myself, but had a copy of the "Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play" downloaded already.

You can get one at http://paizo.com/pathfinderSociety/playerResources (first link with an image by it).

It mentions a few pages in that there are pre-generated characters you can bring if you don't have time to make one up (the link to them is in the right-hand column under free downloads).

Ideally the GM should be able to provide pre-generated characters. You should be able to just show up. Provided you've scheduled slots at the convention. Showing up a little early can help, if you want so e assistance learning the ropes of the game or your character.
If you want to be sure you can bring your own pre-gen. There are some on this page:

Print out one or two and bring them with you.

I run PFS events and have organized some. You can get a pregen, however if you want to keep playing that character it'll stop being a pregen at some point. Also you can play few games with a pregen then generate a real character for that pregen and use it instead, but only after a couple of games or so. The free pdf society guide/primer goes into greater detail.

Ideally you should show up with a built 1st level character, but like others have said, they should have pregens available.

There are pre-gen characters available.
If you not at a con, you might contact your GM or look over the choices yourself.
Also they very in quality, spell casters especially. You can look them over at the table and change out a few feats or spells before the game starts.

Any pathfinder worth his salt with have a binder full of pregens for all the core classes. I have one, and your local guys/women will have one too. That or they can print one right away!

If you just want a great intro game of Pathfinder, try "We be goblins!" Great intro to the system.

Confirmation is also good.
it is the most recent intro module to pathfinder society.
The pathfinder society sends some new recruits on an adventure to confirm their status as pathfinder agents.

I ran it last weekend at a con and everyone had a blast.
