I voted no, and we haven't discussed or considered it, because aside from Hobbit-weed jokes they have not been considered in my games. Of course, they were a feature of the gaming table for a few of my early groups :(.

In the game I play in, there are a couple cults that use certain substances to "commune" with their gods. But most of them have really bad mechanical side effects which make players stay away.
 



I don't focus on them heavily, but they're there. A couple of PCs got high on illegal narcotics in last week's session in an effort to get into the good graces of a decadent NPC.
 

Yes, they appear in my game in much the same manner aws Alcohol does. Certain of the drugs, when ingested, provide bonuses to spellcasting at the expense of something else.
 


Not really. If the campaign had more urban presence, rather than being more of a footnote, I would like them to have more impact. I'm trying to guide the campaing to have more political manouevering, we shall see.

been using drugs in the OD&D campaign from the start of my gaming.

mostly the players don't ask. and i don't tell the specifics.

but partly due to the hobbit weed... well.. you just can't escape it.
