Do the +1 caster levels from Cleric domains stack?

Zaruthustran

The tingling means it’s working!
Example: 1st level Cleric with Good and Chaos domains. Casts "Summon Monster 1" to summon a CG Celestial monkey.

Summon Monster I
Duration: 1 round/level

Celestial monkey CG

According to the SRD and PHB, this spell is a "Good" spell and a "Chaotic" spell:

When you use a summoning spell to summon an air, chaotic, earth, evil, fire, good, lawful, or water creature, it is a spell of that type.

Also according to the SRD and PHB, the cleric casts Good and Chaotic spells at +1 caster level:

CHAOS DOMAIN
Granted Power: You cast chaos spells at +1 caster level.

GOOD DOMAIN
Granted Power: You cast good spells at +1 caster level.

So... does the monkey stay for 3 rounds?

I'm thinking "yes".

What level is the Cleric? 1.
Is the spell a Good spell? Yes. So +1 caster level.
Is the spell a Chaotic spell? Yes. So +1 caster level.

1+1+1 = 3.

The bonuses are not named - unnamed bonuses stack.

A seperate question, however:

If you have the Good and Summoning domain - is the bonus caster level from the Good domain also doubled? I would say yes, but the rules don't go into great detail about the order of operations for multiplication and addition which are not damage.

The rules give only one slight indication that these might not stack. It could be argued that because they are both bonuses from domains, they fall under the restriction that different bonuses from the same source do not stack.

That only holds true if you consider the source to be 'domains' instead of considering the sourc of the bonuses to be from the 'good domain' and the 'chaos domain'.

Either way, this is a rare, minor and peripheral issue. You won't be harmed by ruling it either way.

I'd like an official ruling as well.

In 3.0, I was playing a Gnome Illusionist in FRCS. I had thought of taking one level of Cleric (can't remember the gods name) choosing the domains Illusion and Gnome.

Both domains have the granted power of adding +1 caster level to any Illusion spell. I wanted to actually increase my Wizard casting level (with regards to Illusion spells only) by taking a level in Cleric. The added HP, Saves, Cure spells, armor and weapon proficiencies would have been gravy.

Well, that depends on whether your cleric player is given to violent mood swings... ;)

LOL!!! (I had the same thought) :D

And regarding the stacking of domain abilities, I say of course they stack. If they didn't it would have been specifically mentioned. It isn't like this is an absoutely obscure and unthinkable combination, that must have slipped under the radar of the designers. I mean, as soon as you see these Domains, you think "cool!". Or at least I did.
