[QUOTE="Voadam, post: 9681222, member: 2209"] I really like the 4e world axis cosmology. There is just a couple of pages in the 4e PH and DMG to explain the whole thing and it is super evocative on its own but with cool deeper lore as well in other sources. The World with its own underdark, the Astral Sea above with floating god domains, and the Elemental Chaos below with its bound primordials and the Abyss with its corrupted primordials and elementals at the bottom. The sideways world reflections of the dark Shadowfell and the vibrant Feywild. Far Realm outside of everything and intruding, and (as revealed, I believe, in the Demonomicon) the Obyrith universe predating the World's. I like that dead souls go to the Shadowfell then off into a mystery and that outsiders are spirits and not transformed dead souls. I like that the planes are exotic places PCs can reasonably just adventure in and not the AD&D model of screwing over magic and magic items while often requiring specialized spells just to not be killed by the environment like the Great Wheel pure elemental planes while still allowing exotic hazards like fire hurricanes. I like the cosmology story of Primordials creating the World, the gods liking it and starting the Dawn War to keep the World instead of a cycle of tearing it down and creating a new one over and over again. Very Titanomachy. I like the Abyss myth of Tharizdun and the Shard of Evil corrupting T and a bunch of the primordials and elementals and the Elemental Chaos creating demon lords and demons and the Abyss and being a threat to the Universe. I like the Asmodeus story of fighting the Abyss, capturing a part of the Shard of Evil, betraying and still working with the gods, and the whole Grazzt Angel/Devil/Demon lord storyline. I like that there is a ton of neat lore to delve into and that the 4e cosmology impacts a lot of stuff and is considered in a ton of 4e development. Primordials creating titans who created giants who created slave dwarfs. Moradin the crafting god working with primordials in creating the world but not wanting to scrap it and so joining the gods and freeing and embracing the dwarves. Raven Queen and Orcus being big parts of the core HPE module AP. The whole torture god in the Underdark storyline with his Dawn War origin story. Angels working for gods and being any alignment, elemental archons being primordial created soldiers and normal elementals are usually hybrid wild dual element things. I like that PC psionics is narratively the World having an immune system response to invading Far Realm and aberration incursions. Not sure if it is my own 4e head canon but Lolth originally being the goddess of fate who saw the threat of the Abyss and created the Demonwebs to contain it, knowing it would transform her into an evil corrupted demon lord hated by all those she loved, and her choosing to do so to save the world from demon take overs is a great tragic myth story.
