Do you expand Brew Potion?

Do you let characters with the Brew Potion feat brew magical oils, like Oil of Impact? How do you handle a character that wants to brew a potion of a high level spell?

Brew Potion doesn't allow potions of spells higher than 3rd level, with the exception of the Master Brewer PrC.

However, I've been thinking about making a feat called 'Craft Single Use Item' with a more flavorful name, of course, which would allow the creation of potions, oils, spell grenades, etc. That would cover the extra stuff not normally allowed which you seem to want.

Yep. I allow for NPCs to make potions of spells higher than 3rd level. I once created an alchemist class (back in 3.0) that could make potions of spells up to something like 6th level. But, presently, it's just one of those "mysteries" and PCs can't do it. This allows me to hand out useful potions without having to bother with rules.

I let Experts take item creation feats (as long as they have ranks in Spellcraft) and allow them to craft spell items of any level provided they can make the two Skill Checks required to do so (Spellcraft Check for the Spell and Craft:Alchemy check for the a Potion/Oil).

Funny you should mention it...I just posted two different versions of an Alchemist class that I would like feedback on. One of the class features? Brewing potions from spells of higher than 3rd level.

</shameless self-promotion>

I created a feat called Brew Greater Potion (with BP as a prereq) that was the same as Brew Potion, but let you create potions of up to 6th level spells.

Cool idea. What if Brew Potion was a feat that you could take multiple times, and each time you took it the maximum spell level you could brew increased by 1 (or 2, or 3)?
