Do your characters swear?

Just curious. It's one of the things I'm never entirely sure about in-game - I swear quite a bit in real life, but when my characters curse, it always gets me funny looks. On the other hand, one of my characters is an ex-military scout who's looking to rejoin the army in a commanding role, so she should quite literally swear like a soldier. :)

So do your characters swear a lot? Is it something that your group is comfortable with? Uncomfortable with?

yes, no, maybe. but always in character.

i don't use the f word. but i will swear in French, Turkish, Tugalog, Klingon, or Danish. ;)

I always try to think of colorful things to say instead of "modern swearing", e.g. "Orc's armpits", "by [deity]'s buttocks", or something like that.

or Danish. ;)

Really?

Yes, my characters swear if that is part of thier nature. If I play a Pirate for instance you can bet I swear, and swear a lot. On the other hand if I play a Paladin, then I would not swear, possibly even frown on people that does.

OF course my characters don't swear. :) My characters are always played nobly. :D

really. that comes from having a grandmother who was Danish.

she knew she couldn't be "crass" in front of the young ones. but.... if she goofed...like burning herself at the stove...she would swear in her native tongue.

thus.. i only know a few "select" words

my Welsh, Tugalog, and Turkish is weak that way too.

my French and Klingon tho are both strong. :o

My characters do not use terminology that would be considered swearing to 20th century English speakers.

They might (depending on the character) use a term that is considered offensive to speakers of their language and in their culture. Like "Tymora's teats!" or suchnot.

I mean, often what is considered swearing in one culture might not have the same connotation in another. For example, I recall how one British gentlemen reacted to how quaint we considered "bloody."

Oops... is that somehting Morrus' grandmother wouldn't approve of? ;)
