In fact I thought he played the part rather well. But still, I don't like the Fifth Doctor all that much for a number of reasons. My main beef being that he seemed to be a background character more than anything, and not a main character at the forefront of a story. For the most part he seemed helpless in controlling events around him and oftentimes being swept up in them, whereas the Doctor I know would assert his authority and take charge whenever the proverbial s**t hits the fan. Oh sure there were some instances were the Fifth Doctor would perform some heroic act and daring deed to please us (such as his rescue of Peri in The Caves of Androzani), but they felt few and far between.</blockquote>
