I can't honestly say that I miss Planescape. There's a lot about Planescape that I liked - there was a sense of wonder and scale to the setting which I don't think any of the other TSR settings really had, for instance. I liked the Factions as a subtle replacement for alignment. Modrons are fun, and I enjoyed the rest of the races as well. And I've always liked the notion of the city at the center of everything. On the other hand, there's a lot I never liked about Planescape - the cant was a silly notion, IMHO. It wouldn't have been as bad if it had been confined to Sigil, but the whole multiverse talking like 17th century Londoners snapped my disbelief suspenders something awful. I never liked the Factions giving out magical abilities as a signing bonus. The D&D classes seemed like an uneasy fit at times. And the whoel setting was way too tied to the Outer Planes for my taste. It's not that I think the Outer Planes should be reserved for high level characters, or anything like that - I just don't think the afterlife (or afterlives) are all that interesting, unless you're willing to make that the center of the game thematically. Now if a new Planescape comes out, I'll buy it. But I'd be happier if it were a Planescape tuned to my particular tastes rather than a simple repeat of the original material. And that's soooo not going to happen.
