I've LARPed a couple of times, once with some friends, once after Dragonmeet in London. The first was a boffing game with foam swords and stuff, pretty enjoyable but spoiled by some kids that just ran off and tried to hit everything and everybody with their swords more or less at random. Bleh. Helping out a DM by playing a monster was more fun, but I still had very little understanding of what was going on. And yes, one of the girls I went with I had a crush on at the time. :D The post-Con LARP was also fun, it was a Vampire game. I just enjoyed talking and playing a somewhat confused vampire who didn't know what was going on but was intent on confusing some other people. it took place in a pub, so I had a few beers too. No real desire to go back to it. In both cases, I met some nice people, but also in both cases I met some people who were waaaay too into it...that didn't seem to be treating it as a game, more as an excuse to try and freak other people out. So, I've tried it, I've nothing against it, but it's not for me.
