Does low Str limit the range of thrown weapons?

Zaruthustran

The tingling means it’s working!
Where are the rules for how far you can throw Alchemist Fire? I was planning to buy some for my gnome wizard, but he's got a 6 str. So I'm afraid the best he could do would be to blow himself up.

All the SRD says is that a thrown weapon can go a maximum of 5 range increments. But it doens't make sense that Conan and Peewee would tie each other in the Hammer Throw event at the Olympics.

Any ideas/references?

Grenade-like weapons generally have a range increment of 10 feet. Str doesn't affect how many range increments you can make, just how much damage you do if you hit (but not in the case of alchemist's fire).

Conan never competed at the hammer throw at the Olympics, and so D&D doesn't attempt to model how he'd do at the event.

Okay, any useful replies?

The PHB has rules for carrying, dragging, and lifting over your head. Those rules are based on Str. Surely there's a Str-based rule on how far you can throw an object.

Yes, two (counting this one). There are no such rules.

I believe his first paragraph was useful. Namely

Those are the rules...... If you want to make up new rules, great for you....... And move your question to the house rules forum.

I need a little help here folks...Great Throw comes to my mind for some reason or another, but I don't know what it is, if it even exhists, or if it's just a figment of my imagination. Is it a monster ability or something? Anybody know what I'm talkin' about or am I daydreaming? :)

Not sure if my sarcasm detector is ringing or not.

Greath Throw Exists as a frequently mentioned but never detailed feat in Oriental Adventures.

Fixed here: http://www.d20reviews.com/Eric/errata.htm

Great Throw (General)
You can throw your opponents to the ground, choosing where they land and dealing damage in the process.
Prerequisites: Improved Unarmed Strike, Dexterity 13+, Dodge, Improved Trip, Combat Reflexes
Benefit: When you make a successful unarmed trip attack against a creature no larger than your own size, you can choose where the creature lands, within the area you threaten. In addition, you deal your normal unarmed strike damage to the opponent. When you use this option, however, you may not make a followup melee attack using the Improved Trip feat.

each range increment adds a -2 penalty after the initial 10 ft.

a 20 is still an automatic hit.

but in your example Conan the Barbarian is a BAB +1 per lvl class. and Pee Wee the wizard is not.

Conan and Pee Wee's Dex are the key to hitting their intended target with a thrown weapon.

don't forget important feats with ranged weapons that may help or improve your chances.
