Reducing in earlier levels the number of encounters a party is expected to go through in one Long Rest and increasing it in later levels makes the game's pacing far better in my opinion. But there's one thing that's been bugging me: Do the encounter points for an adventuring day for each tier take non-combat encounters in consideration? "6-8 encounters a day makes sense if you include exploration and social interaction!" was a common argument in O5E (though I don't think it was particularly convincing), but the way I read T&T, it sounds like the Adventuring Day in A5E is only for combat encounters. This makes sense for social encounters since those don't usually expend any resources and the adventuring day is all about resource management... But then do we not count exploration challenges as well? If you were a hypothetical mad Narrator who wanted to lay out the number of total encounters a party will go through from Level 1 to 20 across an entire campaign (not that I'd do that... cough), how would you factor in exploration and social encounters?
So I think A5E's new Adventuring Day guidelines in Trials & Treasures are a fantastic tweak to O5E. If you were a hypothetical mad Narrator who wanted to lay out the number of total encounters a party will go through from Level 1 to 20 across an entire campaign (not that I'd do that... cough), how would you factor in exploration and social encounters?
