Does the Swashbuckler Class from CW lose any abilities from using a shield?

First Post
I have a PC that is a multi-class swashbuckler/favored soul. The favored soul allows him to use shields. However, if I remember correctly, the swashbuckler loses some abilities if he is in medium or heavy armor or maybe just armor in general.

Will using a shield count as being armored? Will the swashbuckler lose any abilities for using a shield?

If you can, can you tell me where you found your answer, so I can show my player, such as in the PHB, FAQ, etc.

Thanks!

As the swashbuckler's abilities specifically refer to being clad in non-heavy or medium armor, and not carrying a heavy load, I don't see how using a shield would negate them.

Shield and armor are different. For example in the monk description of abilities it will say that they lose those abilities if wearing armor or using a shield. Swashbuckler just mentions armor, nowhere does it mention shield use. So I would say that by the rules, a swashbuckler could use a shield with no penalty if they had the proficiency to use it.

Hi!

CW, p. 12: Grace (Ex); Insightful Strike (Ex); Dodge Bonus (Ex): "A swashbuckler loses this bonus when wearing medium or heavy armor or when carrying a medium or heavy load."

Other abilities a either unaffected or affected as per the Jump or Tumble skills, respectively.

So, the swashbuckler can buckle with a buckler or any other shield.

Kind regards

P.S.: IMC we got a swashbuckler/fighter/rogue who does as you want to do. Go ahead and enjoy! :)
