Does Wall of Force Block Sound?

Can you hear what someone says if they are on the opposite side from you? Do they need to yell? :hmm:

There is no "Sonic" energy in 4E, so it doesn't need to block noise to prevent damage. It blocks Line of Effect, so spells/powers that "Charm" won't work though it. This leads me to believe that it doesn't need to block all noise.

I am asking because I want my villain to be able to make a soliloquoy without being attacked by the pesky player characters.

N.B.: Wall of Force is a 22nd Level Wizard Power.

I would also ask if you could smell through a Wall of Force but that would be just silly.

Sight: yes, obviously
Sound: Sure
Smell: Who cares, but I would say no.
Taste: Umm, who knows? But I would say no.
Touch: No
ESP: Well, maybe

Gygaxiaism: Of course, it pervades all reality.

I would treat it just like a stone wall.

If it is wall to wall, ceiling to floor, than it totally blocks sound.

If there is a gap somewhere, then sound can get around the wall.

It is totally solid, so I wouldn't treat it like a cheese grater with holes in it.

If you want to have the NPC villain do a soliloquy, then put a small 1 foot tall gap at the ceiling for his voice to travel over.

It doesn't block light; yet it blocks radiant damage.

It blocks thunder (the equivalent of sonic in 4e) damage.

But I see no reason that it has to block sound. And if it doesn't have to block sound, well, it's up to you.
And personally, I'd go with it letting sound through, simply by analogy with the fact it lets light through.

Does the villain or one of his minions cast the spell? If so, then I'd says he gets to determine things like if it blocks non-magical sound, has a cool looking watermark, or what it sounds like when you hit it.
