Donating old 3.0 books

No Trouble at All
So I wouldn't be surprised if this has already been discussed, but...

Has anyone put together any cool ideas for places to donate 3.0 books to once we buy 3.5?

It's not really something you can donate to your local library. controversy aside, it's just not useful to your local population that way. I'm sure someone has found a good way to donate to kids who can't afford $100 for a set of gaming books.

Any links/pointers would be appreciated.

p.s. Please don't make this thread into an argument over whether or not we should buy 3.5 in the first place. :)

Many libraries will not accept used books of any sort anyway.

But, Boys and Girls club might take them. I work in a similar sort of place, and that is where I get rid of my old game stuff.

If that doesn't work, ask around, see if somebody you know has a younger brother or sister, cousin, next door neighbor, or whatever, who might be into it.

If you really can't find anybody who wants them, maybe just abandon them in a public place with a note attached. "Take me, and have fun!" If you're extra nice, include a set of dice.

Donating/Giving the books away is a GREAT idea, BUT:

I would suggest holding onto them for a while. They will be a handy reference tool especially when using old ( non 3.5 ) d20 product. Sometimes you just need to be real clear on the prior rule so you can adapt/change correctly.

I'm going to be giving mine to the local Salvation Army second hand store. Someone will be able to buy them real cheap (probably for about $5 - $10 each, and thats Australian dollars) and my favourite charity will get a little bit of money that way. :)

I would suggest adolescent behavioral health facilities. Suprisingly, most organizations like this see value in fantasy role-playing and a lot of those kids could use the kind of escapism gaming provides.
