I don't really like the incarnate construct idea. It gets rid of the 3 things that make a flesh golem interesting: The construct type, Magic Immunity, and a permanent 1 Cha. As for why he'd be in a party, I actually came up with a background idea that sort of gives him a reason. The character started out as the son of a powerful but very eccentric wizard. One day he was killed by enemies of his father. The wizard, being eccentric, decided that instead of just raising his son he would make him a new form that would enable him to protect himself against further attacks. So the wizard took his son's brain and placed it in the body of a flesh golem. Using specially designed spells, the wizard animated the golem so that his son kept his memories and independence in his new golem form. Of course the wizards son wasn't very happy about this. His new form was hideously ugly and none of his friends wanted to be around him. So the son went looking for people who were used to dealing with the wierd and unusual. What he found was a group of adventurers. So now the kid-turned-flesh golem lives the life of an adventurer. His father, once an adventurer himself, is happy that his son is following in his footsteps. And the son is starting to get used to, and almost even enjoy, his new life and body.
