Double-Fisted

Can one wield two implements at once without them cancelling each other out? For example, can a Warlock wield a standard rod +2 in one hand and a rod of corruption in the other and have both them function? I realize you cant stack the static enhancement bonuses, but can you use the enhancement of one, and the power of the other, and the properties of both? I know with slot items you can only gain the benefit of one, but when it comes to implements, it's a bit fuzzy to me. I'm assuming yes, but, then again, I remember reading that someone cant wear two Holy Symbols (implements).

Using two implements is one of the basic Warlock schticks. You can get the properties of both, providing that the description doesn't specify something like, "...when you make an attack with this implement." For example you can use a Wand of Witchfire +3 in the primary hand, for the enhancement bonus, then when the target drops you can take advantage of a Rod of Corruption +1 in the off-hand to spread your Warlock's Curse to the surrounding opponents.

You should also look into the Dual Implement Spellcaster feat, which allows you to add the enhancement bonus of the off-hand implement to damage.

Anything that is liked to an attack (like a "when you drop an enemy to 0 hit points with an warlock attack using this rod") can only be used if you selected that rod as the implement through which you cast the spell.

Properties without such language work as long as you're wielding the implement (and some would argue without wielding like when you carry it with a shield).

Now that said, there is really no advantage to what you're describing because the magic rod +2 is 6th level...the rod of corruption +2 is only 8th...at most you'd need the technique for a level or two. The most effective combo is taking a high-plus rod with an active power that you really like and add in a low plus rod / wand with a passive property that you really like. There is generally no reason for the passive implement to be higher than +1 unless you then take dual implement caster.

Well, I had a basic Rod +2, and then found a Rod of Corruption +1, so I use the +2 Rod for my spells, and the Rod of Corruption to spread my Warlock Curse, so what exactly am I doing that doesn't seem right?

Our group doesn't do the "wish list" thing. We all agree its goofy.

Ha well, maybe I am, because I read in this forum that a Rod of Corruption no longer works with minions, but I've yet to find it in the official errata. Does anyone know where this is stated exactly?

Rod of Corruption works as it says in the PHB. What was change was the Rod of Reaving. Rod of Reaving was changed that it only does damage to non-minions when you place your curse. Before the change if you had a Rod of Corruption and a Rod of Reaving you could wipe out all the minions in an encounter before you even make an attack.

Ah, yeah, I saw the Rod of Reaving errata, and read some of the debate over using it with the Rod of Corruption, but somebody wrote that they changed Rod of Corruption, but apparently, it was just a confalted statement. Thanks for putting my mind at ease.

They probably got the two confused as they always were spoken about together.
