DP9 Core Command Discussion Group [OGL]

First post here, hopefully it's OK to post something like this on these boards!

I've created a Core Command Yahoo Group for discussion of Dream Pod 9's soon-to-be-released (around May 8th) space opera RPG of big guns, huge starships, daring adventures, and even bigger guns! The new Silhouette Corebook that will be released at the same time will include an OGL conversion of the Silhouette system too, which is why it may be of interest to people here.

So if you're interested in this game, please sign up! And if you're not, go tell someone who is! :)

The URL for the Yahoo Group is:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/core_command/

More info on the upcoming Core Command Setting Book is at: http://www.dp9.com/Worlds/CC.htm

More info on the Silhouette Corebook (which describes the Sil system and the OGL conversion) is at:

Cheers,
Consty

The only thing I got a problem with is it states that it converts the D20 system to Silhouette, something that the Tribe 8 book sorta did but made it pretty much impossible to understand how to revesre the process...

It should certainly explicitly convert from Silhouette to OGL. Not sure if they'll be explicit about the other way round (OGL > Sil), but if you can convert in one direction, then I imagine it should be possible to convert the other way too. I don't know though.

??? Is the Silhouette system going to be released under the OGL? I'm confused.

Or do you mean d20 instead of OGL?

Dream Pod 9 games all use the Silhouette system. However, the new editions will contain OGL (that's d20 OGL) material to convert all their games to d20. So if you can play the games using the Silhouette system or d20 (under the OGL material).

As for reversing the process and converting d20 to Silhouette, I am not sure what you mean. The game is fully detailed under the Silhouette system. The conversion rules allow you to convert everything in the setting to d20. So both the Silhouette and d20 systems fully cover the setting. The only thing that adding conversion rules from d20 back to Silhouette would add is if you wanted to add d20 things from outside the game into the setting. Even then it would seem a simply process to reverse. For example, the conversion rule "a x stat in Silhouette is a y stat in d20" can be reversed to read "a y stat in d20 is a x stat in Silhouette".

Also, I imagine that the conversion rules will be more extensive than that found in the Tribe 8 Player's Handbook.

Actually they explicitly state that the rules aid you in converting anything D20 into their system. Like I said, the Tribe 8 book really didn't help doing it back the other way.

I don't agree with you. In fact I think the exact opposite.

The OGL conversion rules in Tribe 8 Player's Handbook are primarily designed for you to convert the entire Tribe 8 system to D20. What it is not designed to do is converting d20 to Silhouette. This would make no sense as the settings are self contained and need no further d20 material converted to them.

The purpose of the of the d20 OGL material in the Dream Pod 9 games is to allow you to run them with d20. It was to open its games up to people who wish to use another system. It is not designed to allow d20 players to use Silhouette.
