Draconomicon, Open Grave: How Do They Stack Up?

I'm among those who believe that the "monster math" improved greatly between MM1 and MM2. My question is if Draconomicon and Open Grave adhere to a MM1 style of monster (high hit points and defenses, low damage), or to a MM2 style (slightly lower hit points and defenses, higher damage, 'swingier').
Have you found the monsters in these additional books useful, fun and challenging, from a purely mechanical standpoint? Or is it all good fluff and ideas that will have to be tweaked to achieve a sort of "MM2 style"?

My quick analysis of paragon and epic solos from the two sources suggests they follow the MM1 model of high hit points, high defenses. I think damage and # of attacks are more in line with MM1 (didn't see any adamantine dragon-esque 4 attacks as a standard action, mostly double attacks).
