Dragon #302

Dark Psion

First Post
I guess I got mine first (maybe Jesse's trying to make up with me) and since I'd better stop re-watching Star Wars: AotC before I wear out my tape, here's Dragon' Contents.

The Summoner's Circle: How to expand your summoning spells to include the Manual of the Planes and the Monster Manual 2

The Tainted PrC: What the Thralls and Disciple Prcs in the BoVD tried to do, this one does better. What if your PC was taintd by a fiend? What if he could feel the power at his fingertips, if only he would give in to temptation?
The Tainted becomes more like a specific fiend with each level and it isn't limited to evil PCs. In Van Richten's Guide to Fiends, he introduced a new way fiends enter the material plane, Transposition. As the mortal becomes more fiend-like, the fiend becomes more mortal-like until the two switch planes, leaving a very confused mortal in Hades. This PrC would fit that idea perfectly.

A Clutch of Cantrips: A bunch of new 0 level spells.

60 Unstable Magical Side Effects: Or how to really mess with your player's PCs.

Five New Golems: Web Golem, Alchemical Golem, Mud Golem, Rope Golem, Puzzle Golem. Everytime I read about the Puzzle Golem, I hear the Power Ranger's theme in my head.

Silicon Sorcery continues the Golemfest with golems from Neverwinter Nights: Gylph Guardian template to buff up a Golem, Old One Guardian, Battle Horror, Minogon.

Arcane Armor: Creates a all new concept of armor made for mages. I especially like the Retractable Armor; armor on, armor off.

For the Realms: The High Flagon: An inn with the emphasis on gambling and Stats for the Drow in the new books from RA Salvatore. ( Unfortunatly, no stats for Kimmuriel Oblodra, the Psion leader of the Bregan D'aerthe)

For Greyhawk, a Prestige class to fight the Iron League, Mask of Johydee.

For DMs:
Running large encounters: By Monte Cook
Mysterious Magic by Michael Mearls
Running Ready-Made Adventures by Johnn Four
Epic Level Sage Advice

And a Wizard character sheet at the end. I hope they are going to put these character page's online so we can print them out instead of tearing up our magazines (Hint, Hint).

Just curious DP, when you say, add to, does that mean there are now summon lists in the issue about half elemental types, the various demons, devils, and others of that kind?

Yes, All of the Summon Monster and Summon Nature's Ally spell are updated with Monster Manual 2 and Manual of the Planes creatures. And it does them on a single page each for easy photocoping.

It also notes how Templates can make any monster an "Outsider".

It just mentions the Templates in the text. The Revised spell tables are limited to Creatures of the types the spells would normally summon. I adds the Legendary Animals and Paramentals to the Nature's Ally spells for example.

This article supposedly contains informations to determine the neccessary level of Summon Monster/Nature's Ally. Is it solely based on CR?

Re: Re: Dragon #302

It has a table based on CR, but there are cautions that some won't be suitable or should be summoned at a higher level. It mentions higher hit dice when compared to other monsters of that CR, and several points about the monster's spellcasting abilities.

It also has nice rules for creating custom lists for each character.

Since these are excerpted from a published product, I'd be surprised (though pleasantly). The artists are selling 3 sets of 25 "character cover sheets," you can find sample images here:

http://www.gangus.net/sheets.htm

There was some discussion as to the utility of the sheets here last month. The artists have added this note to their site: "Due to popular demand, we will be including an information design sheet with each set to be photocopied for your character's individual class needs. It is based on the same backdrop design with open fields for your spells, equipment, experience totals and more."
