Dragon 319: Mistakes in Shen PrCs?

Hi everybody,

I´m wondering if some information about the Animal Shen PrCs in Dragon 319 is missing. The Dragon´s 3rd shen ability gives no DC for the burning hands-like ability (only caster level). The panther´s 3rd shen ability reduces the penalty to -1 per attack when using flurry of blows. A MNK5 already has this so there´s no benefit. Or did I just miss something in the text?

This is a spell-like ability, so its save DC would be 10 + spell level + Cha modifier.

Patrick Y has said that this was one of the earlier pieces he submitted, so it's possible it was before the changes to the monk in 3.5E. Going by Dragon 318 (the infamous dinopirates issue), monk PrCs generally get to add PrC levels to monk levels to determine their effectiveness with flurry of blows. I'd say that the reduction in penalty stacks with that normally granted by the monk progression.

Hong has the right of it, on both counts.

I wrote that article loooooonnnnnggg ago, well before 3.5 was a gleam in WotC's eye.

Personally, I was just happy to see it finally in print. The picture with it was neat too.

All right, so a MNK7/Panther Shen6 who uses Flurry of Blows as a MNK13 has an attack bonus +10/+10/+10/+5. Makes sense. It would´ve been good if the article stated in the text that monk PrCs generally get to add PrC levels to monk levels to determine their effectiveness with flurry of blows. But if the creator himself says so I guess a DM wouldn´t object (I hope...). Thanks guys.
