Everything I've heard about this game so far seems like an improvement, but will no doubt cause ever-more complaining from people who wish for DAO 2, and have wished impotently for that for 14 years. Not here but I've also seen some incredible double-contradictory-whinges where people have simultaneously whinged that the game has "changed direction" but also whined that it should be like DAO because BG3 was a success - never mind that BG3 only succeeded less than a year ago and is nothing like DAO, and that that would require another "change of direction", the very thing they were moaning about! This to me says that, no matter how good the game is, it'll get a huge amount of negativity for not being whatever bizarre and unlikely thing fans imagined. The same risk exists for many long-time sequels. ME5, if it happens, will likely get similar treatment ("Oh this isn't totally different game I made up in my head? Guess it sucks then!"). The biggest straight upgrade from earlier ones for me that I've heard is that they're returning to the objectively superior design of the DA2 relationship system, where it was a love-hate dial, and you retained relationships and even in some cases romances (just different ones) with characters wherever you were on it, instead of people leaving and stuff (which is extremely hard to balance or make compatible with gameplay - you basically need at least 2x as many companions in case X guy of class Y leaves). The general approach of a moderate number of companions and two accompanying you (presumably indicating more action-focused combat) also seems smart if they want success that isn't niche. The title isn't as evocative, but it's indicative of a more focused game concept, rather just naming an antagonist - likely not even the main one. Except that's not what'll happen and never was, and it doesn't make sense, because at no point has it ever been suggested we're playing the Inquisitor. It would be absolutely bizarre to hold an equal grudge whilst playing an entirely different character, who has likely never crossed paths with Solas before.
