It's been 27 years, so I'm qualifying it with an "I believe".We had to be using a house rule or something from Dragon mag, as I don't remember 1e providing things like prone modifiers or Dex checks.The remorhaz burst up through the ground. Everyone in the party had to make a Dex check (4 or 5d6 vs. Dex) or fall prone (giving it a modifier to its attack roll). The mage and I failed. Fortunately, I was technically behind it so it went after the mage and the DM rolled a '19'. With the 'prone' modifier the roll went up to 21 (23?). We argued if that qualified as a score of '20' and I think the DM eventually said no.</blockquote>
