Dragon Question

First Post
I'm placing a dragon in my campaign world. It's probably going to be a green, though I have not ruled out a red yet. The terrain in question is a large island (~300x100 miles). I'm not one to make a dragon a pushover and one essential part of that is minions to use. I'm assuming in it's long life this dragon has imported some sort of humanoid tribe to provide the bulk of its minions. Now, assuming you were such a dragon, what sort of minion would you import to be your source of minions?

goblins. they are easily cowed, and good at stealth. are green dragons not supposed to be fairly sneaky? they are at home virtually anywhere. also being small, you can have more of them on the island without depleating food supplies (the super genius dragon would think of things like that, ogres and trolls eat to much). if you need something tougher, make them rogues, 20 goblins might not mean much to a high level party, but if they get 2-4d6 sneak attack each, i don't care what level you are, your in for a long day cuz they are flanking the crap out of you. have them worship the dragon as a god they are after all just goblins. just take varrying rogue levels and apply goblin modifiers to them and you'll have a nice little set of frightening minions to torment players with.

Greens are LE, so it would want to work with LE minions.
So if your going basic bland then Hobgoblins are the staple LE little dudes.
Another LE would be the weaker Kobolds.
If you wanted the more powerful or exotic go with Imps or Displacer Beasts or Mummies or Dark Naga or Hell hounds or Manticores or Rakshasa or Mind Flayers or Ogre Mages or Fire Giants this just depends on how strong the dragon is.

Have fun, make it a red. Have it mask its color with alter/change self to be a white. Have it have fire giant, hell hound, fire elemental minions you might want to mask their appearance to if you theme it, basic grunts can be anything you wish, I like lizard folk myself, gives it the nice draconic feel. Have its lietinants be Half Dragon Lizard folk.

In a game I ran once, the evil overlord dragon was a old red, who through clever use of several illusions and well placed intimidation and deciet, managed to convince a rather large cult of bahamut worshiping sturdy warriors.
Things got rather messy, the cult was of good alignment, most were neutral,if not lawful, good. Took the players quite a while to even figure out that the so called "gold dragon" was actually a red in disguise, and boy did they have a time trying to convince the members of the cult.

personally, i would think that whatever tribe this dragon has placed on it's island would shortly therafter bend toward his allignment and bend in whatever other ways it wants them to. not every tribe of goblins has to be CE, they tend to be if left to their own devices but if everything else fits just change the allignment of the creature you choose be it goblin or not.
