Dragon Roots Issue #2 Press Release
Dear Reader,
One thing that always irritated me about Gen Con was that if you wanted the deals, you had to be there. Dragon Magazine always had a good deal if you were a first time subscriber, but if you were already a subscriber, you kind of got the short end of the stick.
To that end, I say this, “that is not our style.”
We have about 300 extra Gary Gygax Memorial t-shirts left over from Gen Con and we are running a special. You can pick up, for a limited time and while supplies last, Issue #0, Issue #1 and Issue #2 plus a Gary Gygax for only $16 plus the cost of shipping.
Why such a good deal?
Well, issues #0 and #1 have covers that are cut improperly. Long story short: in order to give you, the reader, the best deal we can, we track down the printers that can offer us the best deal. Sometime, like this time, we get the shaft with things like covers that should be printed properly and the printer won’t correct the mistake. So, our loss is your gain.
The bundle deal is an ideal Christmas idea for a DM or your players. Together, three issues and a t-shirt is a $50 value. The interior pages printed properly and most of the covers you might not even be able to see the flaw. Order quickly, though, we only have about 300 bundles before they are all gone.
For those of you that have had subscriptions and have a quality product in hand, you can take advantage of the free t-shirt offer by sending me your mailing address and contact information and your shirt size. You will get a free t-shirt with your next issue. However, you must reply quickly before the next issue ships.
Those of you that have PDF subscriptions, you can take advantage of the offer in a similar way, but you must pay for shipping.
First come first serve.
Speaking of Issue #2, the pdf version will be ready by the week's end. The hard copy version should be ready within a week and will be mailed promptly. The issue was scheduled for October, but because of some delays after GenCon I was forced to move the release to November. Because of this, if you have a subscription for hard copy you will receive a free pdf version as well.
We are really proud of this issue, we think it is our best to date. It is the first issue where we can use 4e material. We feel we did this with great success with the Necromancer class. Does this mean that Dragon Roots will be going to a 4e format? The answer is a resounding NO!
Our staff has expressed a disinterest in 4e, so much of the future content will remain 3.5. That said, we know that D&D appeals to those of many tastes and some people like 4e. Because of special permission with Scott Rouse, we will be offering many 4e and 3.5 articles in the same pages of the magazine.
This issue has continuing strength in the works of Daniel Bishop. He has promised us a 3 part 3.5 adventure in the near future but until then he returns with his Campaign Consideration series.
Also making an appearance is the world renowned Tim Kask. Who is that you might ask? You will have to read to fine out. I’ll leave you with three words: “Tower of Gygax.”
Making a new splash to the pages of Dragon Roots is Paul Brazelton. After promising to finish his campaign building article for the last year and a half, you finally get expert advice on how to create a campaign from the ground up. Also returning is Robillard’s Tale. This first of its kind, this article covers many different aspects of a campaign all in one narrative. Robillard’s Tale is the story of my character in Paul Brazelton’s "A Simple Life" Campaign. The narrative brings the world to life but the notes that the DM and myself provide give you insight to an actual campaign from beginning to end. Robillard’s Tale was designed to complement "A Brave New World," Mr. Brazelton’s campaign building article. We received a lot of great feedback on this piece and I hope you enjoy it as much this time around.
It has been a crazy couple of months. Our next issue, issue #3, was scheduled for release in January. Dragon Roots is going to take a short break to restructure and refocus. I am finally going to wipe Windows Vista from my Computer, install some new, badly needed, software and focus on getting the writers on the same page and able to produce more. Our next issue should be out late February or early March 2009.
As always, it is the people’s magazine. If you have an article you want to submit, please feel free.
Also, we are going to be redesigning our website with more on-line content and other fun features. Be sure to check back every once and a while, while we are under construction. Look for a final product early next year.
As always, we value our customers and we greatly appreciate your feedback. Creating a magazine is not easy, as I apologized to Erik Mona at GenCon this year when I told him a year earlier that is was. But it makes it all worth while when we get kind letters of thanks from our fans. We love feedback of all kinds and we would love to hear from you.
Until next time, enjoy your Turkey Day, I hope you get everything you wished for for Christmas and have a Happy New Year J
Thanks for your time,
