[Dragon] The Dragon Article Documentation Project.

Moderators, please put this in the publishers forum if you tyhink it necessary.

I have thirty issues and I cant find a dang thing. There is so much good stuff in there (yes this IS my opinion) but I cant keep it all in my head. I was looking back at the early issues and there was stuff in there that I just plum missed or forgot about. An example: I just found the charts for road and river encounters. How useful!

I have had the idea of destroying my collection in the name of being able to find somthing. Like take each article of one type and put it in a binder with all the other articles of that type. That way if I need prestige classes, I can go to the Dragon Prestige classes binder and look there. If I need stuff on the realms, I can go to a Dragon Forgotten Realms binder and get the stuff there. Only one problem with this approach. (well 2, in the first case it destroys my collection) articles of different types share pages.

So now I am considering photocopying all the ToCs and putting them in a binder marked Dragon Contents. However that still has some problems because the headings in the contents somtimes do not give information about what the contents contain!!! AAAA!!

So here I look to those other gamers who have no life and have the time to dutifully catalog the contents of dragon in one easy to access file. Has anyone done this sort of thing yet? If not I may begin such a Dragon Documentation Project.

I am envisioning an Excel file that details article type (class acts, ecology, etc) issue number, page number and a brief blurb of what it is about. That would be sooo handy.

I am thinking if we can get 30 people to document one issue of 3e dragon, we could have this done in a week.

If you are interested in working on this or have already done this please post here!

Take out the nospam or I wont get the mail!

Aaron.

are you talking about just the 3e material?

yup just issues 274 and up. With 304 that makes 30. Here is an (crude) example of what I mean:

One roll to rule them all / Jonathan Tweet / 274 / p38 / Covers the d20 Core game mechanic

Playtesters Confidential / Kim Mohan / 274 / p42 / Article on playtesting 3e before rollout

Bestiary / James Jacobs / 274 / p100 / Beasts of the Pomarj

Dungeoncraft / Ray Winninger / 274 / time keeping and characterisation for DMs

Thats what I want but in a file that can be sorted and searched.

This would make looking up stuff in dragon a lot easier.

Aaron.

I have already done this for every 3rd Editon Issue. It lists every article, a description, and page number.

Ah! just the man I was looking for. Want to share your hard work? I am sure that there are many who would greatly appreciate your work.

Here's what I want, I'd be willing to help contribute to this.

An index, not of articles, but of the contents. Here's the feats section of the Dragon Index. It lists every feat that appears in every 3E Dragon, a single sentance describing the feat, with the issue and page number.

Ditto all spells, PrCs, Class Combos, Monsters, Items. We could each do one issue and merge all the files together. Hell, Wizards should step up and do this.

My Big Secret Project at the moment is a complete index of 3e Dragon issues. ;) It looks pretty much like the index in the back of a book, with a few differences (mainly listing things like PrCs, feats and monsters collectively and individually).

It's pretty slow going, but once I get it done and sort out hosting I'll be making it freely available. It's just a question of making the time to work on it.

Raistlin Majere,
do you want to share?

I say there are many Dragons here
Almost a score, soon to be more
And I cannot find that cool gear
That I saw lat month,
Or was it last year?
I read an article on lost lore
But looking for it is quite a chore
To just look it up would create great cheer
Ah issue 286, it right here
Between Cities of the Ages and Vs. Vampyr
We would give you creds,
for helping outr heads
And if you can find us
and at GEN CON, lots of beer!

So whadya say?

Aaron.
