Dragon's making half-dragon minions.

So, lets say that a dragon, one of the evil subtypes starts to create half-dragons as minions. Other dragons learn of this fact and in the typical escalation decide to do the same things. How would the different dragon subtypes handle this? What kind of creatures would be the best to do this with? How would they handle their troops? etc.

I dunno, but if the escalation accelerates to cold-war proportions, there'll be a huge (indeed, possibly colossal) market for Viagra.

Ahhhh, well.
Us poor old normal PC's will just go to our foundrys and start churning out NERF BAT (Tm) great clubs of Half-Dragon slaying and liberally distribute them to barbarian tribes and anyone else thats up for a good culling.

You have to wonder though, with the amount of subtypes of half-dragon half (insert random race-object-food group) running around out there on messageboards....

...Just who is the evil bastard cutting their ecstasy with viagra and making it available to dragons?

Greetings!

Hi there Dragongirl! In my own campaign, Dragons have indeed done this, and they have coordinated mass-breeding programmes in order to rapidly create legions of strong, skilled, loyal minions. Just some ideas--

Gold and Silver Dragons seem to mix well with both humans, elves, various half-elementals, and giants. For example:

(1) Mixing with humans provides a great boost to merely human followers.

(2) Elves and dragons mixing provide a range of extra benefits, as well as some common attitudes and goals.

(3) Mixing with cloud or storm giants creates some of the best heavy infantry and shock troops around.

(4) Half-dragon/half-elemental humanoids offer some unusual forces, and these creatures enjoy great thematic ranges of abilities. They aren't necessarily good at infiltrating human society and whatnot, though as special forces that live close to the dragon's lair, they can serve as some very interesting people and special troops. Take a water half-elemental, and combine with silver half dragon template. Combined stats and combined abilities fit very nicely with each other.

Evil dragons have the same options, plus those of the half-fiend template, as well as ogres, trolls, and hags. These offer some unusual abilities, and make excellent servants and shock troops.

SHARK

Here's a thought: What if they decided to breed within the other dragon types, creating dragons that were mixes of Red, Black, Blue, White, and Green?

Thinking outside the box a little, humanoid/giant races aren't necessarily the best for a dragon to use for shock troops. For one, they tend to have their own agendas. My dragons in the past had great success with half-Griffons, and even half-Warhorses. A half-Bulette or half-Girallion would be scary indeed. Aside from faster maturation times, a dragon would also save money by not needing to outfit bestial minions with equipment. half-humans want swords and armor. Half-griffons are smart enough to follow orders, and don't need any equipment to tear things apart.

nameless i see your point about half-dragon creature minions instead of humanoids. The image of a flights of draconic griffons is scary.

Actually, you could add a half-red dragon template to a red dragon. I'm all dragon, baby! ;)

1/2 Dragons

Hey Dragongirl,
I was in a campaign where we encountered a 1/2 red dragon Ogre and I have heard of giants also being used. personally I am all for either 1/2 red or black dragon/trolls :D
