Those were one I did :). I looked at the art and went "Wow. Cool. An alien race that's not just more humans with some sort of bad facial make-up. I want to work on those!" I really enjoy creating races that aren't just 'the same thing' with more Con or taller or shorter. The Quasta represent a truely new race to play, with different abilites, strengths, and weaknesses compared to the standard races. Their history is matched to the setting so that they're a real part of the empire, one that's moving onto center stage, and unlike so many of the "Ooo- red dragons, bad!" crowd, their high degree of patriotism and loyalty mean that this otherwise pleasant bunch is going to follow the emperor's example no matter how bad it might be... That's really too bad you felt that way :(. The Ulb were my other contribution (the intelligent oozes) and I thought they were another opportunity to play something really different, but still be an effective member of a party. They're immune to a lot of stuff because they are oozes, but they run (well, creep) screaming from cracked reactors and radiation spells :). Beholders don't make a lot of sense in terms of physical laws :p, and the Quasta (the race in question) are not so distantly related to them... I do chalk that one up to 'magic'. Hmm. Yes. That would be usefull. I'll try to suggest generating tables for the new races with that information as a web supliment :).
