The Chromatics fear the Gems and their descendants and treat them accordingly while the Metallics have a grudging respect for the decision of the Gems. In another region of space their are latent psionic races (psionic humans like the Talaire from Dragon 283, the Fraal and the Kureshim from If Thoughts Could Kill). This region of space was more or less laid barren in a war between the civilised races and the Illithid invaders. For the oppressed people of these galaxies - far outside the reach of the DE (for now!) - the Gem Dragons are becoming silent saviours, working covertly to restore the natural balance inside the area that covers the remnants of the Illithid Empire.
