[Dragonstar] Thoughts, opinions, & advice

Eye Tyrant

First Post
I have seen this book (the Dragonstar PHB) again and again at my local gaming store. So today while I was picking up MotW I finally took a look at it, since well, I like everything else FFG has put out recently.

That will be the next RPG purchase I make.

That said, what's everyone else's opinion on this setting? I have never played in anything other then a medevial(sp?)/fantasy setting, so I don't really have any experience to go on...

OK, I liked the DS:SH, but you have to realize there is about 8 pages of background out of a 175 page book. You pretty much have the jist of the setting from reading the overview on the Fantasy Flight website. I would encourage purchasing this book, but only with the understanding that you'll be picking up the Galaxy Guide if you really want to run a game.

The Starfarer's Handbook is a great book and it's a very promising settings. There is a very dedicated and active Yahoo-group that you can join for more information (the link is on the FFG website). The Starfarer's Handbook is basically a players guide, if you want to DM the setting you'll need the Galaxy Guide as well (coming up in March). An additional book - Imperial Supply - and equipment guide is also coming out in a few months...

Re: Little setting material in SF book.

This is why I'm waiting until the GG comes out before I purchase Dragonstar. Normally I wouldn't wait, but I need to save on shipping costs from Talon. I finally had to give up on my local game store after the third time (in as many weeks) of them going, "Dragonstar? Never heard of it." This MIGHT be excusible except that I've been going in there asking about it and explained what it was and who published it twice before.

Yeah, I looked around for the Imperial book also, but they weren't in stock... I have no problem picking up the other books. FFG has made a good impression with me so I trust that the stuff will be worth it.

A great books (as most things from FFG are), but I'm upset they keep delaying the Galaxy Guide!

I plan on running a Dragonstar campaign soon, one modeled in part on B5 -- the players will portray ambassadors from various worlds, and I'll have one or two overarching meta-plots of some kind.

It's a really good setting, with well done rules, a wonderful starship/vehicle combat system... the only complain is the delay of the Galaxy Guide, but it doesn't forbid you to begin to play.
