Alcohol is generally not the beverage of choice at any game I have been in, but if someone brings something, or we have something to toast it will appear. I do have to anecdotes. 1. Back in college I ran a game and someone made the fairly elaborate (for a gameroom) drinks of white russians. The party imbibbed heavily, and their characters wandered into a maze like room. Five hours later, they were still in the room. I have to believe that they could have escaped earlier with sober heads. I thought it was funny though. 2. Back in grad-school, one of our players it turned out as a bit of a coke fiend. Not to make light of the situation, we didn't realize it until he quit the game (after stealing some money from one of us), but it made sense when we discovered it. He was the most fun interesting and entertaining player when he was high, when he wasn't he was a complete rock, and didn't contribute to the game at all, except for sullen grumpiness. We were all puzzled by the ups and downs of his performance, until we learned the whole story. The moral? If you are gonna have a coke fiend in the game, (a) make sure he has plenty of coke, (b) don't get too attached to him, (c) hide your valuables.
