Something I know all too well... I'll admit it, I'm not the greatest when it comes to DM'ing a high level party...but this is a subject I know something about, so I'll chime in... 1. Most of the advice I've read here is pretty good...eat a decent meal, load up on carbs and proteins ( pasta, bread, a steak, etc ) but don't over eat. That will slow down the absorbtion of alcohol into your system. Make sure you have a safe way home ( cab, sober driver, whatever ). If you have the option to nibble on stuff at the bar, do it. 2. The darker the liquor, the better chance of a hangover. Hence, Jaegermeister, Whiskey ( my personal favorite ), and red wine will make you feel much worse than vodka or gin. The excpetion to this rule is Everclear...if you hear that word, RUN AWAY! :D 3. Stick to mixed drinks and shots, beer will just have you running for the rest room every 15 minutes, and who wants to spend their 21st birthday in the rest room all night? 4. Do not order ( or let anyone buy you ) a Cement Mixer or a Hairy Buffalo...those are "joke shots" that are used to get the 'trouble-makers' out of the bar. You won't enjoy either one. 5. Old stand-bys that taste good, and have the ability to make you happy - Jack and Coke, Snakebite ( the shot...trust me, you really will like this ), Alabama Slammer, Long Island Iced Tea ( as long as they make it from ingredients, and don't pour it out of pre-mix ), or Amaretto Sour. My general rule is, don't get it if it has more than three ingredients, and ice is an ingredient. 6. After the party, find any all-night diner ( Denny's, Perkins, etc ) and eat before you go to bed. Once again, carbs and proteins will help minimize the hangover. 7. Do not take acetaminophen ( Tylenol ) before going to bed, or the next morning if you have a headache...or, you too can pay a visit to a liver specialist every six months to assess the damage done, like me. And, before any one asks...yes, I still drink alcohol. 8. IMHO, the best thing to drink before going to bed is Gatorade...rehydrates you, and replaces some of the electrolytes and what not that the alcohol washes out of your brain. That's about the best advice I can give...be safe, stay out of trouble, and don't drink to the point where you start forgetting things... Happy Birthday! Zeph
