Druid PRC Shifter

I posted here yesterday about a gnome rogue/wizard. Well, my DM put the Kibosh on him since he said no guns, so now I've got another question. The druid shifter prc looks very interesting, but do the increased wildshape abilities make up for the lack of spellcasting?

You gain in personal power, but become less effective to the party as a whole. After a few levels of the shifter PrC when you can shift into monsters such as trolls, you can become a GMs worst nightmare.

Up to a point, it may be comparable. However if you compare a straight Druid 17 to a Druid x/Shifter x, there is really no comparison. Shapechange is superior to wildshaping *and* you still have full spell-casting ability.

You get full spellcasting with Shifter? Is that in an errata, becuase in my copy it doesn't add spellcaster levels. (If it does it'll be a no brainer and that's what I'll go for.)

The opposite -- that Shapechange is a 9th level Druid spell which grants all the bonuses of the Shifter PrC, albeit temporarily.

Oh, I gotcha, you meant shapechange the spell. Ok, I think I agree as well, I would be more of a burden to the party than an effective character. I'll come up with something else.
*shakes fist at dm for disallowing guns. :D

The shifter PrC is all about flexability - but you give up power to do it.

However, certain character concepts work pretty well with it. For example, I have built a monk/fighter/druid that is going into Shifter (next level). Imagine being able to shift into a Hill or Stone Giant and use unarmed attacks.........

Or you have a rogue that specializes in infiltration/druid. Suddenly, it is alot easier to infiltrate the castle as a mouse than sneaking and using all of that stealth stuff.......

There was a thread in the rules forum that highlighted some of the options available - will try and track it down.
