The stronghold is also not just for druids - it's the home of a knightly order, who need barracks, training grounds, etc. An armed camp with only sentries for guard is too weak, whereas a proper stronghold provides what they need.Also, this particular stronghold exists because it guards something - or rather did guard something, which the goddess of nature had kept hidden there.
