Dragon Scale Counters to expand line of counters with a second print run

Joplin, Missouri, February 1st, 2002 - Dragon Scale Counters is pleased to announce that based on the success of their first run of plastic counters they will expand the line with another run. The next run is scheduled to debut at the Gen Con Game Fair in Milwaukee Wisconsin and promises to add more than 100 new monsters to their existing collection of 140 counters.

Keen about some of the comments about the original art, the company is focusing on a lot more detail than they previously did when creating the first run. They’ve also picked a uniform look to carry through all of their future counters. Organizing Director Eric Price had this to say “With the first print run we experimented with a few different perspectives with regard to the artwork. Our second print run will feature a lot more consistency in the top-down-front perspective that so many of our customers like.”

Getting a second print run out in so short a time is ambitious though and not without its potential pitfalls. Matt Smith, the company’s Art Director put it like this. “I'm already well under way on the artwork for the next run. In fact I’ll be bringing a few pieces each month to the website for our customers to see exactly the level of detail they can expect. What I need though, is to see some artists come out of the woodwork and help me with a little side project. I want to add another 50 counters of inanimate objects to the run, but I can’t do it without some freelance help from the community.”

In support of Matt’s goal Dragon Scale Counters is looking for artists to help with the inanimate objects portion of the print run. They are specifically looking for talented individuals who want to draw inanimate objects from a perspective similar to the counters shown on this page (top-down-front). Ideas for appropriate inanimate objects are chests, treasure piles, logs, desks, braziers, altars, bookshelves and whatever else you can think of. The deadline for all art submission is March 31st, 2002.

Artists interested in more information about the open call should contact Matt Smith directly
