The February issue of Dungeon arrived at my house today. Here's the skinny: Editorial: Pixel Envy, by James Jacobs - James talks about losing tabletop RPGers to CRPGs, and how that's not really the death of tabletop games at all. Prison Mail - Letters this month include errata for issue #140, complaints about how the cover of #140 is upsetting to the religious right, and questions about the Savage Tide. Riding the Rail, by Christopher Wissel - In this [smallcaps]eberron[/smallcaps] adventure for 5th-level characters, a huge stone column has been brought back from Xen'drik, and is being transported via the lightning rail to Aundair. However, thieves plan to steal it on route, and the PCs must keep the train on its course and protect the cargo. Sidebars cover fighting on the roof of the moving train, adapting the adventure to other settings, and scaling the adventure. Tides of Dread, by Stephen S. Greer and Gary Holian - The Savage Tide continues! In this adventure for 9th-level characters, the PCs finally arrive at Farshore, on the Isle of Dread, only to find it under attack by pirates! Defeating the raiders is a short-lived victory, as they find that was only a scouting party for a much bigger fleet of pirates who will arrive soon. Now, the PCs must shore up Farshore, recruit allies among the native Olmans and phanatons, repair the Sea Wyvern, and recover caches of weapons from the Isle's extinct rakasta population. If the PCs do this, they might amass enough resources to repel the invaders, who are led by none other than a recently-transformed Vanthus Vanderboren! Appendices cover the tooth of Ahazu, one of the Teeth of Dahlver-Nar, and the new monster, the Aspect of Zotzilaha. Sidebars cover switching sides, recruiting dinosaurs, Zotzilaha lore, victory points, the lemorian half-fiend, scaling the adventure, and full stats for the allosaurus, ankylosaurus, dimetrodon, diplodocus, parasaurolophus, pteranodon, and stegosaurus. Backdrop: Farshore, by Stephen S. Greer and Gary Holian - This backdrop explores the history of Farshore, and gives a keyed map, with each location explored. All of the locations also have upgrades to them that can earn victory points for the battle in the aforementioned adventure. There are also stats and descriptions for Lavinia's personal adventuring company, the Jade Ravens. Sidebars cover shopping in Farshore and influencing votes in the election for lord mayor. Mask of Diamond Tears, by Nicolas Logue - In this adventure for 13th-level characters, the PCs are enlisted to recover the stolen mask of diamond tears, and must navigate their way through an illusory ball to confront the thieves. But when the leader employs the mask's power, the PCs become their own worst enemies. Appendices cover the mask of diamond tears and the Mirrored Creature template. Sidebars cover the city of Talantier (from issue #141), asking around the city, and scaling the adventure. Dungeoncraft: The Perfect Chase, by Wolfgang Baur - Wolfgang covers ow to perform a chase with the d20 mechanics. The Dungeon: Open Sesame, by Michael Kortes - Five new types of secret doors are given, each with several paragraphs of description. Wandering Monster: Slithering Tracker, by James Jacobs - An old favorite is updated to 3.5 here, with full stats for this CR 4 creature, as well as its strategies and tactics, its ecology, info about it on Knowledge (dungeoneering) checks, and its treasure. Cartoons - The Portent, by Peter Bergting; Mt. Zogon, by Tony Moseley; and Downer, by Kyle Stanley Hunter. Map of Mystery: Ancient Fortress, by Christopher West.
