The latest Dungeon arrived in my mailbox today, a bittersweet sensation, since after this there's only three more issues to look forward to. Here's the rundown: Editorial: 200 HP!, by James Jacobs - James talks about how awesome the demons in the 1E Monster Manual were (Demogorgon had more hp than anything else in the book), and how that made him a D&D demon-aficionado for life. Prison Mail - Letters this month include positive responses to issue #144's editorial about playing opposte-gender characters, and praise for Bargle appearing in that same issue. James also lets it slip that issue #150 will have an updated version of the original adventure with Bargle, from the Red Boxed Set! The Aundairian Job, by Craig Shackleton - In this [smallcaps]eberron[/smallcaps] adventure for 5th-level characters, the PCs are contracted by the Church of the Silver Flame - to rob a bank! An amulet containing the soul of a powerful rakshasa has been located, and since the Silver Flame exorcist couldn't acquire it from where it's stored legally, its up to the PCs, as hired hands, to do it. But what bank heist has ever gone smoothly? An appendix covers a new monster, the tool swarm (CR 5), three very short sidebars cover a player handout, the tigerbreath crucible (which holds the rakshasa), and scaling the adventure. Dread Pagoda of the Inscrutable Ones, by Stephen S. Greer, Tom Ganz, B. Matthew Conklin III, Stefan Happ, and Ashavan Doyon - This adventure for 10th-level characters is the conclusion of the Seeds of Sehan campaign arc. Even after having the source of the corruption destroyed, the threat of Sehan once again rises. Having obtained a sample of Sehan, the yakfolk's first experiment with it has gone awry, and is now barely under control. The PCs must enter the yakfolk region of Shambhala-na, high in the Yatil mountains, and end the threat of Sehan once and for all. Sidebars cover a player handout, pilgrims to Shambhala-na, two new magic items (the branding stylus and the everlasting stylus), and scaling the adventure. Into the Maw, by Robert J. Schwalb - The Savage Tide continues! In this adventure for 17th-level characters, the PCs must sail into the Abyss to rescue Lavinia Vanderboren and destroy her monstrous brother Vanthus once and for all! To do this, they must sail into Demogorgon's realm, and head to his prison, Divided's Ire, which is now in the grip of a war between competing factions. If the PCs can juggle shifting alliances (including a familiar face from the Shackled City Adventure Path) and take advantage of the chaos and rampant betrayals, then they may be able to rescue save Lavinia and put Vanthus out of their misery once and for all, and in doing so, find clues about where to look for Demogorgon's weakness. An appendix covers a new monster the belairon (filth demon; CR 14). Sidebars cover the wakeportal magic item and give an overview of the Abyss, finding Lavinia with magic, an overview of Demogorgon's layer, a note about compass directions with Abyssal maps, dungeon dressings in Divided's Ire. Dungeoncraft: Planar Adventures, by Wolfgang Baur - This month, Wolfgang talks about how to make great planar adventures, covering topics such as being bigger than life, making the strange even stranger, and remembering the familiar. The City: 100 Shops and Taverns, by Russell Brown - One hundred different shop names are given, each with a single sentence describing what they sell. Critical Threat: Demodragon, by Mike McArtor - Straight from the D&D animated series comes Demodragon! Weighing in at CR 21, this unique creature remains very true to his animated roots, with a staggering array of powers and abilities. Even his opening text mentions that he was created by Venger to "steal a set of artifacts from a group of young adventurers," though it also mentions that it's likely that some of Demogorgon's blood was used to create Demodragon. A sidebar covers Demodragon's roots in the animated series, and the magical poison dragonbane. Cartoons - The Portent, by Peter Bergting; and Downer, by Kyle Stanley Hunter. Map of Mystery: Kharadad, Dwarven Cliff City, by Christopher West.
