Paizo
there is actually some green tucked in around those brown spots.
Yes, there is. There are some really avid fans of Dungeon who actually care about the content of the magazine, and they are going to refuse to let a company turn their money into a cheap "cranked out" version of it's former manifestation.
Opinions expressed by readers and members of messageboards will not be considered as valuable or desirable harbingers of change; only "elite" attendees of the aforementioned conventions (a tiny but vocal minority of gamers to be sure) may suggest changes to the magazine and have them be considered. If this is the case, it certainly sounds aliennating to the majority of the readership, to put it lightly. I, for one, was offended by his (admittedly perceived) arrogance and dismissive attitude towards criticism of his publication and his company's failure to give the readership what it wants, let alone reassure us that our opinions matter and positive change is indeed in the works.
I find his remarks and their implied arrogance very insulting. It says to me that he has already dismissed the letters that have been sent and the postings on various message boards. He, and the rest of his staff, have done little but meet protests with a trite attitude and smirking arrogance. I also found his comments of "If Dungeon is still viable" as a threat to axe the magazine. I also found his signature line trite not to mention that he used an arrogant amount of sarcasm (the Shakespeare lines) in an official company post. He has done little to change my mind about his company, his product, his sincerity toward his subscribers, or himself.
However, whatever he meant, it seems to me to be extremely short-sighted to delay any consideration of addressing changes to the magazine by any length of time unless there is no point in doing so
I believe he has made up his mind.
I was willing to pay the $8 for your book every 2 months.
So was I, and still am, and that is truly sad.
But now you are asking me to pay $14 every two months with less product I could use.
Lets not even mention a 50% reduction in actual adventure content.
I do not hate you or anyone of your staff, but I am a very dissatisfied customer. Am I asking you to bend over backwards to please me? No. But I wish you would address those people that are telling you nicely our displeasure in the same way that you would want to be addressed if you were the customer...
Oh, he did. Read his posts, or email him personally and see how much you like his response. I emailed him and got quite the nice snarky little reply.
I don't carp because I hate Dungeon or Paizo or Johnny. I carp because I think, "come on, guys, I *know* you can do better....
I don't hate anyone. I'm pissed because of his changes to Dungeon, the following protests, and his previous responses of "too bad." They may be losing money, but doubling the price AND axing content doesn't sound like "saving" the magazine. It sounds like "milk it until it dies."
