Dungeon: incursion adventure - any good?

Plane Sailing

Astral Admin - Mwahahaha!
I'm trying to track down a copy of Dungeon magazine with the "incursion" adventure in it.

No joy so far, but I thought that before I go any further I'd better ask whether it is worth spending a lot of energy look for it.

* anyone played it?
* any storyhours with it in?
* how interesting/inspiring/balanced did you think it was?

Thanks for any help.

Cheers

I was in one campaign where the DM started off strong and then got lazy. We used both the Dungeon and Dragon magazine to get the full effect though. It's not just an adventure, it's also a campaign setting. I'm thinking of adding some of the elements to my FR campaign. In such a campaign I don't think that they'd invade with full strength as they know the powerful wizards would just wipe them out, but will attack some of the dopeir places with little magic.

The reason is that I'm interested is that the endgame of my campaign is likely to be the PC's invading the mindflayers home plane or vice versa (they are pretty aware of this now). It struck me that this adventure and supporting material might provide useful stuff I could pillage for my campaign (a campaign in which the gith races are still subjects of the illithids I might add).

Cheers

Well, if you're using Mind Flayers, make sure to pick up Paradim Press's book on them. It's not quite as good as the Monstrous Arcana series with it's full color glory and three supporting adventurers, but it's very close and gives Mind Flayers a different feel, almost like Galactus.

Just to be clear, are you referring to Dungeon #100, with "Lich Queen's Beloved" and the Githyanki Incursion setting? If so, yes, yes and very interesting.

I've gone on record as stating that the module "Lich Queen's Beloved" is perhaps the best example of a high-level adventure done well that I've seen. It allows for a lot of variation, allows PCs to flex their high-level muscles and doesn't arbitrarily limit the players or their possibilities. It uses some clever tricks to get around the githyanki level limitation and Paizo offers a nice couple of web enhancements (one for $2, iirc) on their web-site.

As for a Story Hour that features it....yeah, I know of one. Mine. ;) I'd provide you a direct link, but the boards are acting funny, right now, and my story hour appears to be truncated to somewhere around page 14 (of 30 or so). I'll post a link as soon as I can figure out what the deal is.

The campaign setting

Great wizardru, I'll look out for it (and for a link to the relevant portion of your storyhour once it is linkable to again).

Of course, it just makes me curse all the more that I didn't pick up that issue when it came out - I'd changed from a habit of buying dungeon and dragon to a habit of not buying them some months earlier... and I can now find local backissues of all of them *except* this :(

Regards
