Dungeon Magazine In Uk!?

johncolossus

First Post
Us in the UK are now about 2 issues behind (4 months) of Dungeon. Has anyone in the UK received Dungeon 91 yet?
Or is this all part of the slow distribution of WOTC stuff to anywhere apart from USA?

Does anyone know why we are so far behind on the magazine?

Oh by the way anyone received Dragon 293 yet?

Cheers all

The latest Dragon I have has the Wilderness Prestige classes in, the hooded figure in teh snow on th front, had that a couple of weeks now from my local store..

I got Dungeon through the door on Wednesday from my RPGA subscription, its the one with teh SpellJammer d20 in it....

Ok, I'm not in the UK but since Germany is also Europe, I too just got my issue #92 in the mail on Wed.

Current issue of Dragon is also the same one (from local store, my subscription doesn't start till 295).

I did however not receive my issue 91 and contacted them (I had renewed my subscription since my Polyhedron/RPGA subscription had come up for renewal) via email. They checked into the status and are sending me my issue #91.

I don't know how you receive yours, but mine are on subscription from the UK distributors, and I've always get them at roughly the same time as the US, I think. I've had Dungeon 91 for so long now, I've forgotten getting it. And I certainly have Dragon #294, nevermind #293, and I'm expecting #295 very soon, so I can't imagine what the problem is for you?

I get mine from the local store......as you are from Birmingham (as I am aswell - shock horror someone from the same city on these boards - which part are you from?) the stores I get from are Dungeon and Starships or Wayland Forge.

To get the subscription do you contact Wizards UK? Because this is sounding like a sensible way forward. By the way do you belong to a local club or you play with your mates?

Cheers

Your local store just might be a little slow on the take. Here in Vancouver there is a very large bookstore chain called chapters, it currently has Dragon #292, Dungeon #90. A gaming store here had Dragon #293, Dungeon #91. And another gaming store has Dragon #294

So the moral of the story is that stores can have wildly different restocking speeds. If the magazine isn't in one store look around at another.

UK folks who get their Dungeon direct from Wizards, which is to say those folks who get Dungeon/Polyhedron as part of their existing RPGA membership, did not receive issues 90 or 91 due to a change in Hasbro's international business policy that unintentionally made it impossible for us to provide those magazines from the states. Both the RPGA and Periodicals staffs know that's a crappy reason to not get issues, so all of us have been working feverishly to come up with a work-around.

The fact that UK members have received issue 92, at the very least, fills my cubicle with the songs of chanting angels. We're not _quite_ ready to make an announcement about the missing issues just yet, but I did receive fantastic news yesterday that leads me to believe that the situation will be resolved in a matter of weeks.

Well, it's a small old world, isn't it? Moi, je suis dans Selly Park, and I know both Wayland's Forge and Dungeons and Starships quite well. I tend to go to Dungeons and Starships more often, because it's at the end of my bus route into town by about… oooh… 40 yards.

Very, very hard to resist going in, every time I'm in town.

To be truthful, I can't remember how I set up the subscription for the magazines, but I do remember that once I had the telephone number for the distributors, it was so painless, I couldn't believe I'd relied on WHSmith to supply them vaguely on the shelves whenever, and however. [No disrespect to either the two shops mentioned, for I never tried there, having only discovered their presence in Birmingham after my friends at LegendGames.co.uk packed up their mail-order business for a year.]

As for clubs, I know of none. This may come as a surprise (maybe not these days, I don't know) but all the games I play are over the internet. I've never played round a table in my life. I'm not saying I wouldn't though, if there's an offer out there somewhere? For the record, I only do D&D 3E, and am very fond of the Kingdoms of Kalamar, wherein I play constantly. I'm in one excellent FR game run by the Great Vyzyn, but everything else is KoK for me.

One further thing, I guess I don't get my magazines directly from Wizards, because I was entirely unaffected by the problems outlined above, and have both Dungeon #90 and #91 right here beside me. I think, as I understand it, they are sent by the same distributors directly to me, who go on to send them to all the shops and WHSmiths. If I can find out more the next time an envelope arrives, I'll let you know if you want. Please feel very free to e-mail me directly dunx@scarogoth.com
