By John Grigsby, Staff Reviewer d20 Magazine Rack Sizing Up the Target Øone Games offers Battlemaps: Dungeon Rooms, Volume 1, a 22-page PDF download of printable miniatures-scaled battlemaps. This product is also available at the Øone Games website for $6 and is part of the Master Accessories collection. First Blood Battlemaps: Dungeon Rooms, Volume 1 contains a total of 16 (8 color and 8 grayscale) printable maps scaled for use with miniatures. Each map has a full-color and grayscale version (for ink conservation) and can be printed on a single page (with the exception of one two-page spread). Critical Hits These maps are simply gorgeous, with vivid detail. The color versions are strikingly beautiful and even the grayscale maps allow all the details to be clearly distinguished. All maps are underlined with a one-inch square grid that blends seamlessly with the environment depicted. Critical Misses This is a PDF file, which means that printing the maps will be up to the user. The grayscale option is nice, but the color maps are far more attractive and most people will want to print them out. While they can easily be printed on standard paper, I’d prefer something that is going to last a little longer. Things like this I’d rather see as a physical product as opposed to e-ware. Coup de Grace The artwork is great and the product is certainly worth the cost, but the idea of having to print them out myself chafes me for some reason. I’d rather something like this be a product that has the maps professionally printed on stiffened cardboard. They’re more durable, they last longer, and it means a lot less work and expense for me. Go the extra mile and charge me a little more.
