Well this is confusing casting, I mean...Burt Reynolds? Huh? If this isn't a total Uwe Boll mess I will be amazed.

Dungeon Cast Announced

Jason Statham (The Italian Job) leads the cast of Uwe Boll's upcoming Dungeon Siege, a sword-and-sorcery movie based on Gas Powered Games' video game of the same name, producer Shawn Williamson of Brightlight Pictures announced. Dungeon Siege follows Farmer (Statham) on a mission to save his wife and child as an evil army rampages across the land, destroying everything in its path and focusing on conquering the Castle Ehb.

The cast also includes Leelee Sobieski, Ron Perlman, John Rhys-Davies, Matthew Lillard, Kristanna Loken and Burt Reynolds.

Boll directs from a screenplay by Doug Taylor, David S. Freeman and Glenn Benest.

Rarely have a seen a movie that so thoroughly confuses me.

I mean, Statham, Rhys-Davies, Perlman... That's a dream cast. I'm less psyched about the other actors, but with the possible exception of Reynolds, I can't think of one who's completely inappropriate for fantasy. (I'd say Lillard as well, but he's surprised me before.)

On the other hand, it's Uwe Boll, a factor that--on its own--outweighs almost every other detail imaginable. I swore off his movies after I made the mistake of sitting through Alone in the Dark on DVD.

I guess I'll have to wait for trailers and reviews on this one. But as much as I want to be hopeful, given that cast, I don't think I can be.

Being someone who for some reason sat through BOTH Alone in the Dark and House of Blood I feel your pain. I've been a fan of Lillard's since SLC Punk, we'll see what he can do here. I just can't imagine Uwe Boll putting out anything that is worth a dang, but maybe, just maybe I'll be suprised...I doubt it though.

I think after the sucess of the LOTR movies, we are going to see some strange casting like this for a while. Quality actors think, 'Hey, fantasy isn't such a bad thing. I mean, look at how well LOTR did, and it won all those Oscars!'

Problem is, the movie isn't LOTR, it's some mish-mash video game hammered into a script with a bad director.

I think Perlman should have been cast as the main character, not the guy from the Transporter. He's got much more charisma and screen presense, though admittedly, he's much uglier.

Frankly, he looks more like a farmer, too. The guy from the Transporter looks like a waiter in a fancy restaurant.

Well, really, most this cast isn't exactly big names. The lead guy is most notable for a moderately succesful action movie (The Transporter) or a supporting role in similarly successful movie (The Italian Job).

Then you have the guy who played Shaggy, and the woman who played the evil Terminator in T3. People might recognize them, but probably don't know who they actually are. Conversely, people have heard of Leelee Sobieski, because it's an odd name, but I bet most people have no idea what she's been in.

Reynolds, Rhys-Davies and Perlman will pretty much do anything - commercials, B movies, video games. Though they are all fine actors (or can be, when they want)

That's funny. Even though I have seen him in those movies, I still think of him in 'Snatch' and 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels' over those.
