Hey ENworld (man, it's been a while since I've come here). I'm looking to build a special dragon-themed dungeon in response to one of my players looking to take Dragon Disciple levels. The idea being that when the players level at the end of it, she'll take her first level of DD (I asked her about this plan and she was thrilled with it). However, there's an issue. While I do have the general shape and entrance challenges in mind, I'm not really set on monsters. The party of 4 is at the moment all 5th level, and have just received the cryptic message that will direct them to this dungeon. Unfortunately the number of appropriate-difficulty draconic enemies to stick in is kind of low. At the moment, most of my choices are drakes. One idea I'm considering is making the process of getting inside in the first place difficult enough that preparation will take them up to 7th level before they can enter (which was also fine with the future Dragon Disciple player. She said she couldn't decide whether to take 5 or 7 bard levels before going DD, and told me she'd do whichever was more convenient for me as far as dungeon design goes). So yeah, basically I'm looking for appropriate dragon-themed monsters for a 5th or 7th level party. And I'm thinking the final challenge, if I waited for them to be 7th level would be against an adult crystal dragon who would formally "test" them. A really difficult challenge, but being a good dragon he'd allow them to rest and fully prepare themselves before they took him on. Maaaaaaaybe he'd even strike for nonlethal if they lost (maybe), and he'd probably call the battle a win for them before he actually got reduced to 0.
