Dusk Player's Guide up (without my permission)

Michael Morris

First Post
This morning I was working on a thread in the Pathfinder forum and ran a google search looking for something I thought I'd posted here at ENWorld before. Well, the search turned this up

Just goes to show that if you do upload something to the Internet it will eventually turn back up. I originally had a small area on this server to host the document with Russ' permission - it ran all of 3 weeks before WotC issued a Cease & Desist letter (any look at the file will make it clear why).

I'm not sure if I should issue a C&D of my own, or just wait for WotC to do it again. Personally, I don't really care if its out there or not, but I am slightly miffed it was posted without my permission or knowledge.

If WotC legitimately could give you a C&D, that puts your own right to issue one on shaky ground. Not only that, but if you don't have the muscle to back up the C&D, they may just ignore you.

I'd think the best path would be to notify WotC that they've put it up without anyone's permission, and let them deal with it.

And, well, we do have a policy of not linking to infringing materials - when you get around to it, we probably want to kill that link...

Hey Mike! Did you ever do a copy of Dusk for 3E? I have your copy back from the 2E days, but if you did one for 3E, I missed it.

Sorry to see someone put your 4E version up without permission :(

Yeah, I guess. I started work on a non-infringing version of the book but stopped out of a lack of interest on my own part. But that was a long time ago. So much has changed.

To be honest, I'm not sure if I should care.

Dusk's 4th edition was for D&D 3.5e. The overlap is as follows.

Dusk 1 - AD&D 2e
Dusk 2 - AD&D 2.5e (Player's Option Rules)
Dusk 3 (unpublished anywhere) - D&D 3e
Dusk 4 - D&D 3.5

The file in question is for D&D 3.5. I played 4e all of 6 weeks before deciding it wasn't for me.

Welcome to the club. The first time you see someone distributing your work without permission it does feel really, really horrible. You get insensitised to it after a while though, and the only real way to look at it without feeling really crappy is as a compliment - and it feels better, at least (at least it does to me) than a deafening silence does because it shows that somebody's interested in what you'e done.
