Dwarf Sourcebooks

I have some Christmas money to spend, and I want to get a book about dwarves. Which is better: Hammer and Helm, Heroes of High Favor: Dwarves, or The Quintessential Dwarf?

What do you want in a dwarf book? If you want some great feats a nd prestige classes that really fit well with the standard PHB dwarh, HoHF is the way to go. If you want more dwarven options and break away a little from stadard, then go with Quint Dwarf.

I have Hammer and Helm and Quintessential Dwarf.

I was looking for a 3e version of the old AD&D Complete Guide to Dwarves. Neither is precisely what I was looking for, although Quintessential Dwarf is closer to my ideal.

Hammer & Helm
ten pages of overview about Dwarves
ten pages of feats
twenty five pages of prestige classes
fifteen pages of creatures (monsters, templates, etc.)
fifteen pages of spells
twenty pages of equipment and magic items
ten pages of generic dwarf NPC stats

Quintessential Dwarf
ten pages of overview
thirteen pages of prestige classes
ten pages of dwarven tricks and new ways to use skills
three pages of feats
ten pages of equipment
twenty pages of rune magic, item, and spells
six pages of religion
twelve pages of mining
six pages of creatures
six pages on dwarf holds

I like both Hammer & Helm and HoHF:Dwarves.

Hammer & Helm really expands dwarves and brings them into the 3e era - for good or ill. It has a lot of intriguing options for dwarves, including the previously unmentionable topic of dwarven arcane spellcasters.

HoHF: Dwarves is more player oriented, and for the most part is a very good book. High on the prestige class content, so if prestige classes aren't your ball of wax...

I do have Quint Dwarf. It seems a little more cliche in its treatment of dwarves... but whether that is good or bad is up to the reader, I imagine.

I'd have to vote for HOHF.... I love all those books, but I particularly like the dwarf one.

Though that may change when the Gnomes book comes out.

If it's ONE of the three, I have to go with Hammer & Helm.

But honestly, I feel that Hammer & Helm is VERY nicely complemented by Heroes of High Favour: Dwarves.

The two books go VERY well together, with no overlap. Unfortunately, having these two, my Quintessential Dwarf sits on my bookshelf accumulating dust.

:(

Forget dwarves, get a book on Gnomes.

Why do the little races always get dissed, by getting specialized books done about them last?

I only have Hammer & Helm, but it is excellent - easily the best book on dwarves that I've ever read. The atmosphere/feel of the book is phenomenal, the material is well thought-out and very appropriately dwarven, and (from what I can tell) the crunch is balanced as well as interesting.

I love this book. :D
